Frequently Asked Questions

You ask, we answer.
What is the ISDN Switch off, and will I be affected?
Traditionally, ISDN technology allowed inbound and outbound voice calls through a ‘digital’ line. BT first launched ISDN in 1986 to migrate outdated landline technology to digital. However, SIP trunking is now replacing ISDN services with Cloud Hosted phone services being the chosen methods of communications. This means ISDN will be phased out entirely by 2025, starting with some areas as soon as January 2021. So, if your phone calls do not currently travel over the internet, you must make the change by December 2025.
Do I need to use a traditional desk phone with a Unified Communications System?
The short answer is no! You can use an IP-based desk phone. However, if your device has an internet connection (e.g. mobile or laptop), you can usually use it to make and receive calls as if you were sitting at your desk.
Do you cap data?
A typical voice call uses 100kb of data per call, meaning that a standard ADSL Broadband Line would be sufficient. However, you should consider the number of users and concurrent calls taking place. We would always ensure a good quality fibre connection is installed where possible to guarantee the quality of service.
Is a Unified Communications system more expensive?
No! As it’s a subscription-based service, it’s incredibly cost-effective compared to legacy phone systems and infrastructure. In addition, you get inclusive calls and a portfolio of many features and benefits. You’ll also save money by not having a maintenance contract.
Can I keep my existing phone numbers?
Absolutely. We can move all your current numbers over to a new solution with minimal disruption. We can also provide new numbers for any geographic location.
